Organizing your swimwear will help you find the perfect swimsuit for any occasion. I invite you to review these tactics for storing your beachwear.organizing swimwear

Easy to Put Away Options

Suppose you're the type of person whose clean laundry sits in a basket because it feels too daunting to fold and put away. In that case, you will want a way to put away your swimwear that requires as few steps as possible. Bins and baskets are a great way to hold swimsuits. You don't even have to worry about folding them. After you sort out your swimsuits from the laundry, you can toss them in the basket. If you have bikinis, you could take this method further and have one basket for bottoms and one for tops.

Using bins to hold unfolded clothes will help you quickly move from piles of unkept laundry to sorted and out-of-the-way clothing. There are a couple of drawbacks. First, if you're looking for a specific piece, locating it will be more challenging as you'll have to sift through everything in your bins. Visualizing your different pieces can also be more difficult, especially if you like to mix and match two-piece sets. Also, throwing individual pieces into a bin instead of folding or piling won't be the most efficient use of the space. You'll need to be wary of filling your bins to the point where they overflow. But if you do not have strong opinions on what you pull out, or you enjoy sifting through your options to find inspiration, then this organizational system could be a good fit.

Utilizing Dresser Drawers

If you have dresser drawers, you can duplicate the "toss in a bin" method just described. You can keep sections separated by using drawer dividers. You can also choose to fold your swimwear to place neatly in the drawers. As you fold each piece, you can set them vertically in the drawers to easily see your options. Place your drawer organizers with just enough space to fit a row of swimsuits to ensure they remain standing. Or use dresser drawer organizers with segments to hold your pieces vertically.

How to fold trunks:

  • Lay the trunks on a flat, clear surface
  • Fold in half vertically, with one leg of the trunks over the other.
  • Fold the fly towards the middle, creating a rectangle shape.
  • Fold the top about a third of the way down.
  • Fold the bottom up. You can tuck the bottom into the waistband to hold the shape better.
  • If you have shallow drawers, you can roll your trunks instead of folding them.
  • Place the trunks in the drawer.

How to fold a one-piece swimsuit:

  • Lay the swimsuit face down on a flat, clear surface.
  • Fold the straps down.
  • Fold the bottom up from the leg opening.
  • Now fold in half vertically.
  • Fold the bottom up about a third, then fold again.

How to fold a two-piece swimsuit:

  • Start with the bottoms. Lie them with the backside face down.
  • Fold horizontally in half so the bottom reaches the top.
  • Fold the sides vertically into thirds.
  • If needed, fold in half again.
  • Lie the top face down. Connect the back strap.
  • Fold the straps down into the cups.
  • Fold the extra band fabric into the cups.
  • If keeping a set together, place the bottoms into one of the cups of the swimwear top.
  • You can skip this step if you prefer to keep the pieces separate for mixing and matching.
  • Fold in half so one cup is nesting in the other and containing the bottoms in the middle.

Bag Them Up

When your swimwear has multiple pieces, another option is to bag each piece of a set together. This makes it easy to grab what you need and go, especially if you're quickly packing for a trip. Ideally, the bag you choose will be transparent so you can see the contents inside the bag.

Plastic is not great for long-term storage. When using plastic, be sure your swimwear is completely dry before placing in the bag. Plastic traps moisture inside, which can cause mildew. Look for bags that have a vent to allow for airflow. I would only recommend this method for summer storage because of the issues that plastic brings. For out-of-season storage, switch to a more breathable cloth container.

Hanging Options for Swimsuits

If you have plenty of hanging space, hanging your swimwear can be a simple solution. Hanging swimsuits also makes them visible, making retrieving specific pieces easy. You can choose to keep the pieces of a two-piece set together. Or you can hang each piece separately if you like to combine your pieces in different configurations.

If using a standard-shaped hanger, you will want to choose one that has a no-slip texture, such as velvet or rubber. Trunks and bottoms of two-piece swimsuits can be folded over the hanger. One-piece swimsuits and the tops of two-piece suits can be hung by the straps. Hangers with clips can also be used to hold bottoms, with the matching top of a bikini hanging on the same hanger. There are also specialty hangers for swimsuits that can be used. They come in either a round shape or in the shape of a torso. If you wear a larger size, be sure to compare the measurements of the hangers with the width of your swim bottoms to ensure they won't slip off.

When considering how to store your swimsuits, there are several factors to consider. You'll want to think about how motivated you are to put your clothing away quickly. It would help if you also consider your preference for the visibility of your items. Lastly, you need to fit your solution into your available space. When taking all these factors into consideration, you'll be able to find the right swimsuit organizational option for you.
